Design panel to discuss ‘next big idea’

A panel of local experts will discuss the changing times during June’s First Friday event at the Las Vegas Design Center at World Market Center Las Vegas.

Set to get under way at 10 a.m. Friday, the panel discussion, The Next Big Idea — How to Revitalize Our Market, will feature an array of industry insiders including Marc and Jill Abelman of Inside Style, Myron Martin of the Smith Center for Performing Arts, Realtor Elle Gaensslen of Coldwell Banker and Eric Strain, an architect and designer from Assemblage Studio. The moderator will be Melinda Sheckells, a Las Vegas-based expert on residential and hospitality décor trends.

The discussion will take place through a talk-show style format with audience participation. Topics will include “The Next Big Idea” as it relates to the reinvention of Las Vegas, communication, realism, diversification and value.

“By gathering a diverse panel of like-minded individuals, we want to focus on the positive opportunities in the market right now and create a movement of reinvention,” said Marc Abelman, chief financial officer of Inside Style.

First Friday includes showroom specials, hospitality and other offerings for the trade.

Robb & Stucky to host free design workshops

Robb & Stucky Interiors at Town Square Las Vegas invites area residents to attend its free Thursday afternoon interior design workshops.

The month’s sessions begin Thursday when outdoor living is the topic of discussion. The store’s experts will teach participants how to create a relaxing and beautiful outdoor space that complements their interior décor. Trends in outdoor fabrics, furniture and accessories also will be discussed.

On June 11 flooring will be featured. Participants will learn how flooring plays an important role in the design plan and how proper installation can impact the overall look of a room.

Making an educated purchase will be discussed June 18. Participants will learn what qualities to look for in upholstered and case good pieces and why quality matters when investing in home furnishings.

The month’s sessions conclude June 25 with a look a fabrics. The store’s design experts will discuss the different types of fabrics on the market and how to select the right one for a project.

Each session is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
