Scandinavian design focus of lecture
Scandinavian design will be the focus of a special presentation May 16 at the Las Vegas Art Museum.
Guest speaker for the evening event will be Lena Walther, honorary consul of Sweden to Nevada and president of the Scandinavian Collection, a showroom at the World Market Center that features work by Scandinavia’s top designer-architects.
The work she selects for the showroom involves close collaboration within the design community in Scandinavia and across the United States, including the American Institute of Architects, International Interior Design Association, members of the Hospitality Industry Network and various higher education institutions.
Her duties as honorary consul include working with Swedish business and government delegations to highlight Scandinavian design and craftsmanship, as well as helping American consumers develop an appreciation for Scandinavian designers and their work. Some of the featured designers include Alexander Lervik, Louise Campbell, Harald Belker, Verner Panton and Fritz Hansen.
Born and raised in Sweden, Walther graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business. She spent more than 20 years working with the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Monetary Fund and two American embassies. She speaks seven languages and is an active member of the International Women’s Forum and the National Association of Women Business Owners.
Her presentation is part of the museum’s Architecture Lecture Series, which is made possible by ASSEMBLAGEstudio, Las Vegas.
Walther’s presentation is set to begin at 6 p.m. Cost is $5 for museum members and $7 for the general public.
Seating is limited and reservations are requested.
The museum is located at 9600 W. Sahara Ave.
