Contractors’ program gives resident ‘Hope,’ new kitchen

Hattie Williams of Las Vegas recently had her kitchen remodeled for free as this year’s recipient of the Rebuilding Hope Program.
Through the program, volunteers from the Associated Builders and Contractors of Las Vegas, with assistance from the Nevada State Contractors Board, remodel one room in the home of a needy area resident. This is the third year the program has been offered.
Williams, 63, who is disabled and could not afford to remodel the kitchen, had missing, loose and broken tiles, mismatched cabinets, old wallpaper and corroded plumbing. She also had extensive water damage to the ceiling and walls of the kitchen in her home, which was built in 1964.
“I am just so happy. I’m so blessed. I’m so thankful,” Williams said. “I’m above cloud nine.”
“All organizations should try to contribute something back to the community,” said Ron Ellis, president of the ABC.
Ellis believes it’s admirable that contractors are volunteering for this program, especially when their main focus is staying in business during these tough economic times. “(This) exemplifies their effort to help out.”
Companies that donated supplies, equipment or labor for the program are Tradewinds Construction, Cal/Pac Painting of Nevada, Western Casework Corp., Floor Fax, Premier Mechanical, Bergelectric, The Plumber Inc., Econ Appliance and Republic Services Inc.
