What are the wheeziest and sneeziest cities in America? The Natural Resources Defense Council has ranked areas around the country, collecting pollen counts along with ozone levels.
The top five in this ranking are:
- Richmond, Va.
- Memphis, Tenn.
- Oklahoma City
- Philadelphia
- Chattanooga, Tenn.
The council says 1 in 3 Americans live in an area where there are high levels of both pollen and ozone.
The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America also has a list of cities called “Most Challenging Places to Live with Spring Allergies.”
The foundation looks at three factors:
- Pollen scores (airborne grass/tree/weed pollen and mold spores)
- Number of allergy medications used per patient
- Number of allergy specialists per patient
Las Vegas currently ranks 45 on this list (it was 62 last year).
The Las Vegas area ranked worst than average in pollen scores and number of allergy specialists. Medication use was better than average.
