Residents of Henderson will have a new emergency health treatment center next year following a groundbreaking on Wednesday.
The center will be called ER at Cadence, and it will be located in the 800 east block of Lake Mead Parkway in Henderson near Boulder Highway and next to the 2,200-acre Cadence master-planned community.
The center will be part of Henderson Hospital, but it will be a free-standing building located about 5 miles from the medical center. The facility will be a “microcosm” of the hospital, according to Henderson Hospital’s CEO Sam Kaufman.
“Ninety percent of all people that come to an emergency room can go home. Only about 10 percent of people actually need to be admitted, but they still need a high level of care,” he said. “We wanted to build a higher level of service, kind of a microcosm of our emergency room in the main hospital, in the community.”
ER at Cadence will have six treatment rooms, three rapid exam rooms, on-site laboratory, pharmacy and decontamination room. It will also have the capacity for advanced imaging services such as CT scans, ultrasounds and X-rays.
The center will be 12,800 square feet and will cost a total of $15.8 million to develop, including the costs of the land acquisition, construction and equipment, according to a Valley Health System spokesperson. It will be part of the Valley Health System facilities and have a record system that is compatible with the other six hospitals and five free-standing emergency departments that are operated by Valley Health System in Clark County.
ER at Cadence is scheduled to open in June or July 2024, according to Kaufman.
The addition of the ER will be another facet of Valley Health System’s expansion into Henderson. Henderson Hospital opened about 6½ years ago; a $150 million second tower was built in 2021 to add to the hospital’s capacity. Valley Health System is also working to build a hospital in west Henderson and two other free-standing emergency departments in the Las Vegas Valley.
Valley Health System is investing into Henderson since it sees the city, which the U.S. Census Bureau estimates had a population of over 331,000 people in 2022, as a fast-growing area with a rapidly rising demand for health care, Kaufman said.
Bringing more health care options to Henderson is also being prioritized by the city.
“Access to health care is critical to our community’s well-being and adding more health care options throughout the city is a specific goal of our strategic planning,” said Henderson Mayor Michelle Romero.
ER at Cadence should have a solid base of demand since it’s located next to the residential master-planned Cadence community. This community has sold more than 4,400 homes and is projected to have over 12,000 residential units, according to Cheryl Gowan, a spokesperson for Cadence.
The center is also being built next to a large Smith’s Marketplace and several other smaller retail offerings such as restaurants and barbershops, Gowan said. She believes the ER will also be able to accommodate more than just the Cadence community and also those who live nearby, including the community of Lake Las Vegas and Calico Ridge.
“Although Henderson Hospital is just down the road, in an emergency, this is much, much closer and provides as-needed services for the residents of this community,” Gowan said.
