Valley Health System breaks ground on Henderson Hospital

The Valley Health System broke ground July 9 on a 142-bed hospital slated for construction at U.S. Highway 95 and Galleria Drive.

The $168 million facility, scheduled to open in fall 2016, is set to offer emergency care, surgical services, women’€™s and children‘€™s services, cardiology and ancillary services.

The site is set to employ 700 people, with hiring planned through spring and summer 2016. The hospital is the Valley Health System‘s sixth in the Las Vegas Valley.

WestCare to hold donation drive

WestCare Nevada has teamed up with community partners Crazy Pita and Nevada Title Company for a Christmas in July Drive, set to benefit the women and children at the nonprofit‘€™s Women and Children‘€™s Campus. The drive runs through July 31. Residents are asked to donate new and unwrapped baby items, including toys, blankets and clothing, as well as women‘s clothing and new toiletries, at donation boxes inside any three of the valley‘s Crazy Pita restaurants or at a Nevada Title Company office branch location. Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation camp planned through July 25

The Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation is set to hold its 19th annual Camp Cartwheel Summer Camp for critically ill children and their siblings ages 5 to 17 through July 25 at the Torino Ranch at the base of Mount Charleston.

The medically supervised, outdoor and overnight camp experience is for children diagnosed with cancer or other life-threatening illnesses. The free camp includes swimming, scuba diving, arts and crafts, canoeing and outdoor games. The Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation‘€™s staff and volunteers provide more than 200 campers the chance to form positive peer relationships, develop greater independence and self-esteem and have the opportunity to feel like a healthy child.

Wound healing seminar planned July 28

A free seminar called My Wound Won‘€™t Heal – What Can I Do? is planned from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. July 28 at the Spring Valley Hospital conference center, 5400 S. Rainbow Blvd.

A non-healing wound can be a serious matter, especially if you have another medical condition, such as diabetes. This talk on advanced wound therapy treatment will cover options available through the Advanced Outpatient Wound Care and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy center at Spring Valley Hospital.
