Desert Springs Hospital opens rehab, geriatric psych units

Desert Springs Hospital Medical Center has opened an acute inpatient rehabilitation unit and geriatric psychiatric unit.

The inpatient rehabilitation unit has 22 private rooms and a gym, and it provides patients who are being discharged from other units in Desert Springs to continue their care without being transferred to another location.

The geriatric psychiatric department has 32 private rooms in a secured unit and is designed for patients age 60 and older who have emotional or cognitive problems.

“We continually evaluate the needs of our community and found that geriatric psychiatric services and rehabilitation services were both underserved areas,” Sam Kaufman, chief executive officer of the hospital, said in a statement.
