Breast cancer awareness events

Numerous activities and tie-ins are planned in observance of October as National Breast Cancer Awareness month, which is aimed at raising awareness and funds for breast cancer research and treatment.

Among the local activities and events scheduled are:

■ Grapes & Hops Festival, to benefit Par for the Cure, 5-9 p.m. Oct. 6 at Springs Preserve, 333 S. Valley View Blvd. Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 day of. The event will feature fine wines, beer, food and live music. Par for the Cure is a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising funds for breast cancer research (822-7700).

■ The American Cancer Society’s annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5k walk is Oct. 6 at JW Marriott, 221 N. Rampart Blvd. Registration begins at 7 a.m., with the walk at 8 a.m. (makingstrideswalk.org).

■ Passionately Pink, the breast cancer awareness wine-tasting event to benefit the Southern Nevada affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, will be 10 p.m.-2 a.m. Oct. 6 at Double Helix at Town Square, 6599 Las Vegas Blvd. South. The event will feature red and white wines, champagne and music by DJ Green. Tickets are $25. Pink attire is preferred.

■ Bunco or Bust to benefit Breast Cancer Research Foundation 7 p.m. Oct. 6 in the CasaBlanca Resort in Mesquite. The entry fee is $40. For details, call 888-711-4653, ext. 6967 (casablancaresort.com).

■ Pilates by Dolly, 1620 E. Serene Ave., Henderson, will have the DK Body Pink Pilates Benefit yard sale for breast cancer research, prevention and awareness starting at 7 a.m. Oct. 6. Items for the yard sale are being collected at the following Pilates by Dolly locations: 1620 E. Serene Ave., 515 Rose St. and 7871 W. Charleston Blvd. (407-4066).

■ Season 4 a Cure Cancer Run, to benefit UC San Diego Nevada Cancer Institute, Oct. 7 at the institute’s campus, 1 Breakthrough Way, near Town Center Drive and the Las Vegas Beltway. The family-friendly event will feature a 5k run/walk, 100-yard kids dash, a breakfast catered by the Four Seasons and more. Registration begins at 7 a.m. Adult registration is $25 in advance and $40 day of. Registration fees for ages 12 and younger are $10 in advance and $15 day of. Registration fees for seniors ages 55 and older are $20 in advance and $30 day of. Nonrunners can purchase tickets at the event for breakfast and activities for $15 adults and $10 for children (seasons4acure.com).

■ The Southern Highlands Golf Club, 1 Robert Trent Jones Lane, will host the 10th annual Pink Tee golf and social event, to benefit the St. Rose Dominican Hospitals R.E.D. Rose Program and Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Oct. 9. The women’s event will feature golf, dinner, auctions, shopping and more. Tickets are $270 for golf, dinner and shopping and $150 for dinner and shopping only. ■ St. Rose Dominican Hospitals will present the fourth annual Rose Regatta Dragon Boat Race and Festival, to support those affected by breast cancer, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 13 at MonteLago Village and Marina at Lake Las Vegas. Dragon boat teams will compete in races, and the event will include a Flowers on the Water ceremony, a Painted Paddles Gallery, the Light the Way lantern tribute, live entertainment and activities. ■ ULTA Beauty stores at 2186 N. Rainbow Blvd., 7265 Arroyo Crossing Parkway and 9857 S. Eastern Ave., will host Salon Cut-A-Thons to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Oct. 14. For a minimum donation of $10, participants will receive a wash and cut. Also, a pink glam strand hair extension will be available for a $5 donation. Through October, ULTA will also have the Kiss campaign, with paper kisses decorating stores across the country. Each kiss decal represents a $1 donation (ulta.com/donatewithakiss).

■ Valhalla Med Spa, 6804 W. Cheyenne Ave., will have its annual Monster Bash 5-8 p.m. Oct. 18. The event will feature a DJ, food and prizes. Tickets are $20 with $10 going to the Southern Nevada Affiliate. For more information, call 658-0204.

■ Smiles for Survivors Foundation will have Blow Out Breast Cancer event 4-11 p.m. Oct. 20 at Square Colour Salon + Spa, 1225 S. Fort Apache Road. The nonprofit group raises awareness of cancer treatment’s impact on oral health and provides dental treatment for breast cancer patients and survivors. The event will feature salon treatments, a silent auction, live music, food and hosted bar. Tickets are $35 in advance or $50 for admission and a blow out; $40 admission day of. ■ Bee Creative Ceramics, 3460 E. Sunset Road, will have an Octoberfest fundraiser for breast cancer awareness 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 20. The event will feature a car show, music, drawings, kids craft tables, arts and crafts, prizes and other activities (998-2545).

■ Station Casinos properties will have its Project Pink campaign through October to support the Komen Southern Nevada affiliate. Activities will include pink-themed spa treatments, a pink-themed dinner at Cabo Mexican Restaurants and pink-themed pastries at Grand Cafe locations (stationcasinos.com).

■ Through October, the dinner comedy show “Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding” at Bally’s is donating $40 from each VIP ticket purchased using the promo code BASK to the Komen Southern Nevada affiliate, and $25 from each general admission ticket purchased using the code AASK (949-6450).

■ Panera Bread locations will donate 10 cents from each sale of a Pink Ribbon Bagel to the Komen Southern Nevada affiliate.

■ Customers who make a donation to the Komen Southern Nevada affiliate at Pink Nails, 8414 Farm Road, will receive a special gift throughout October (384-8889).

■ Spas at Flamingo Las Vegas and Harrah’s Las Vegas will offer special pricing on 50-minute massages or facials Oct. 2-4. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” campaign. ■ Slice of Vegas and Hussong’s Cantina at The Shoppes at Mandalay Place, 3950 Las Vegas Blvd. South, will offer a selection of themed food and drink specials to diners through October. ■ During the month of October, Las Vegas Premium Outlets South, 7400 Las Vegas Blvd. South, and Las Vegas Premium Outlets North, 875 S.
