Topping Out

Kate Moss receives so much praise for her just-out-of-bed look that one of the United Kingdom’s hottest retailers, Topshop, solicited the supermodel’s styling prowess for a new eponymous line. The Kate Moss Topshop collection boasts replications of the key items featured in the former Calvin Klein model’s wardrobe.

Skinny jeans, masculine vests, mod mini-dresses, understated tops — all the ingredients necessary to properly mimic Moss — debuted on May 1. London shoppers lined the streets and the store allowed groups in for 20 minutes at a time. The store allowed shopers to purchase a maximum of five items on opening night to ensure the fashion wealth was shared. Much like H&M’s celebrity/designer collaborations and diffusion lines, the prices come much closer to bargain categorization than luxury.

This comes as great news — to Topshop locales, that is. The United States, more specifically Manhattan, waited until the line crossed the pond May 9, debuting at Barneys New York temporarily. The line sold out the same day.

When will Las Vegas shoppers enjoy a chance to purchase Moss’ skinny jeans or vintage-inspired dresses in store? Not anytime soon. We won’t be graced with a Barneys New York until early 2008 when the Palazzo at the Venetian opens its doors.

Until then, you can certainly do your best to capture the look of the Kate Moss Topshop collection on your own. It just so happens many items resembling Moss’ pieces sell in stores right here in Vegas. Notice the difference in the prices. We merely point it out to inspire the proper anticipation the Las Vegas Barneys New York deserves.
