SHOW US YOUR BAG

• Name: Dr. Matt Welebir
• Occupation: Owner and practicing cosmetic dentist of Summerlin Dental
• Occasion: This bag isn’t a designer clutch and I wouldn’t take it to any black-tie events, but it’s awesome for work, travel and getting around. Whether walking or on a bike or motorcycle, it’s super adaptive to your body, plus it holds a ton.
• What kind of bag? Crumpler NYC — a very popular brand of messenger bags in New York City. Each bag is personally customized. The artwork on my bag is by Travis Millard, a very unique and celebrated artist and creator of Fudge Factory Comics. The character’s name on the bag is "Brian," a kid with goat horns.
• How much did it cost? $350.
• Where did you get it? Manhattan.
• What does your bag say about you? This bag is literally a one of a kind. I really like things that are individual and totally different, from clothing to cars to bags, things that not everyone and their brother also own. This bag with its "underground" art is one of those things. I wouldn’t say I go against the grain but you never would have found me wearing an Ed Hardy T-shirt or trucker hat.
• Why did you choose this bag today? Crumpler’s are extremely mobile and I travel a lot. I just got back from New York City and all my junk was still in there from the trip. It doesn’t really go with my outfit.
• What do you like about this bag? Everything! Its size and shape, the fact that it has internal pockets to throw your electronics in, space for a wetsuit and towel or laptop and books. The best thing is the way it carries, cross-chest with another strap that anchors it against your lower back. The thing is awesome.
• How many bags do you own? As a guy, I unfortunately don’t have the latest Marc Jacobs, Gucci or Louis Vuitton. I do have two other tote bags like the Crumpler, a Tumi and a Hot Tuna, from Australia.
• What’s the most you ever paid for a bag? $500 for a Victorinox roller suitcase (but I’m eyeing a $1,200 Mont Blanc attaché case).
• Image is … functional. It lets people know who you are, but is unique as well.
• What’s in your handbag? Clockwise from top: Today it had "A Thousand Splendid Suns," by Khaled Hossilni, a Casio digital camera, black video iPod, GrinRX Whitening Stain Remover Swabs that just came into the office that I am trying out, my ever-present Blackberry and playing cards. I also always carry my laptop, toothbrush and treswhite bleaching trays, passport, sunglasses, pen, credit cards and, also always-present, flip-flops. And gum.
