A Change is Coming

Celebrities who go to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City tend to think of the event as their very own runways. For each show they attend, a new look is in order, usually one that pays homage to the featured designer they’ve come to see. Consequently, limousines turn into dressing rooms. Last year, the quick-change-artist honors went to Mischa Barton, who mastered the feat so well that Bebe decided to mimic the speedy backseat changes in a commercial. Fast forward to this year’s shows and it looks like Sofia Bush of “One Tree Hill” could out-change even Barton.
If you have a special occasion that calls for more than one look, or even two or three, consider Bush as an example of how it’s done. During the first day at Bryant Park, she changed in and out of three different outfits. Notice that rather than piling up on accessories, the television star pares them down. The only piece that remains throughout each change is a simple, single bangle. Her shoes each have an understated quality to them while her handbags make more of a statement. She opts for two clutches, one oversized and one box-shaped, and ends the night with a mid-sized satchel, perhaps holding her other two ensembles.
The 25-year-old actress thought out her outfits wisely, selecting dresses earlier in the day and saving her most complicated of the three looks for her last show, L.A.M.B. Bush started the day in a BCBG dress, which, with its ruffled neckline and flowing A-line hem, captures enough attention on its own to forego accessory overload. Her midnight blue Abaete number, worn a few hours later, doesn’t need punctuation, either. The fit hugged Bush’s figure and the ruched bust detail created that always attention-garnering accessory, cleavage.
For the day’s finale show, L.A.M.B., Bush tipped her hat to Gwen Stefani in a look that had the designer’s signature all over it. Hot pants, fishnet pantyhose and a high-collared, ruffle-trimmed white blouse made up the most complicated, as well as the most impressive, ensemble of the day.
You can pull off this amazing quick-change feat, too. While you may not enjoy the kind of celebrity privileges as Bush, you can still look as though you do. We’ve put together a few pieces that mimic Bush’s three outfit changes. Some come with designer prices, others don’t come close. All of them let you change with ease.
