CINEVEGAS FILM FESTIVAL SCHEDULE
The ninth annual CineVegas film festival runs Wednesday through June 16 in the Brenden Theatres at the Palms, 4321 W. Flamingo Road (unless otherwise indicated). WEDNESDAY
7 p.m. Vanguard Producer Award: Jerry Weintraub — CineVegas honors the "Ocean’s Thirteen" producer prior to the opening-night benefit screening.
THURSDAY
7 p.m. "The Grand" (at the Golden Nugget, 129 Fremont St.) — Professional poker gets the mockumentary treatment in an improv comedy, filmed in Las Vegas, featuring Woody Harrelson, Ray Romano, Dennis Farina, Michael McKean and Cheryl Hines.
7:30 p.m. "The Devil Came on Horseback" — This documentary follows a Marine captain’s odyssey from military observer to witness to genocide in Sudan’s Darfur region.
FRIDAY
3 p.m. "The Grand" — see 7 p.m. Thursday.
3:30 p.m. "I Don’t Want to Sleep Alone" — A homeless man, an immigrant worker and a coffee shop waitress form a romantic triangle in Kuala Lumpur.
6 p.m. "Choose Connor" (world premiere) — A teen (Alex Linz) discovers politics, and more, when a Senate hopeful (Steven Weber) taps him as his youth spokesman.
6:30 p.m. "Bad Habits (Malos Hábitos)" (U.S. premiere) — An extended family hungers for meaning in a Mexican drama.
8:30 p.m. "The Living Wake" (world premiere) — In this eccentric British comedy, a self-proclaimed artistic genius (Mike O’Connell) enlists his best friend ("The Squid and the Whale’s" Jesse Eisenberg) to chronicle his final hours.
9 p.m. "VIVA" — It’s 1972, and a desperate housewife discovers women’s lib — not to mention nudist camps, the hippie scene, orgies and more — in a sexploitation pastiche.
SATURDAY
1 p.m. "Loren Cass" (U.S. premiere) — Conflicts explode in 1997 Florida as a cycle of violence engulfs going-nowhere characters.
1:30 p.m. "Never On a Sunday (Morirse En Domingo)" — Trying to bury his uncle, a young man becomes embroiled in a series of gruesome adventures in modern-day Mexico City.
3 p.m. "LOOK" (world premiere) — Hidden security cameras provide the vantage point for interwoven stories.
3:30 p.m. Short films 1: People, Loving People — Exploring the human condition, from shocking comedy to bus-stop melancholy.

6 p.m. "All God’s Children Can Dance" (world premiere) — The first English-language adaptation of a Haruki Murakami short story follows a troubled son in search of his father — and the truth.
6:30 p.m. "Eagle vs. Shark" — Two misfits find each other — maybe — in a deadpan romantic comedy from New Zealand comedian Taika Waititi.
7:30 p.m. "Once Upon a Time Maria (Eros Una Vez María)" (U.S. premiere) — A Mexican comedy about a filmmaker obsessed by the title character of his latest documentary.
8:30 p.m. "Careless" (world premiere) — An offbeat romantic comedy with Colin Hanks on the trail of a mystery — and, perhaps, the woman of his dreams.
9 p.m. "Garbanzo Gas" (world premiere) — Gonzo indie actor and filmmaker Giuseppe Andrews returns with an out-there tale of a motel and its crazed inhabitants.
11 p.m. "My Name Is Bruce" — CineVegas fave Bruce Campbell ("Bubba Ho Tep") finds himself kidnapped by the residents of an Oregon town who hope he can help them fight the monster menacing them in a work-in-progress written, directed by and starring Campbell.
SUNDAY
Noon "Hollywood Heart" — The results of a filmmaking workshop for kids.

3 p.m. "Throwing Stars" (world premiere) — Four buddies looking for fun find more than they bargained for in a comedy-drama featuring "ER’s" Scott Grimes, Jason London and "Seinfeld’s" Wayne Knight.

4 p.m. "I Have Never Forgotten You: The Life and Legacy of Simon Wiesenthal" — A portrait of the concentration camp survivor who helped bring more than a thousand Nazi war criminals to justice.

4:30 p.m. "Phantom Love" — This surreal drama traces a woman’s liberation from a web of family ties.

4 p.m. Short films 3: Still Lives — Portraits of memorable characters.
6 p.m. Marquee Award: Anthony Hopkins — Conversation with the Oscar-winning actor, plus a screening of "Slipstream," which Hopkins wrote and directed, about a screenwriter (played by Hopkins), trying to separate real from reel.
6:30 p.m. "Penelope" (U.S. premiere) — Christina Ricci stars in a contemporary fairy tale about the daughter of wealthy parents (Richard E. Grant, Catherine O’Hara) afflicted by a disfiguring family curse.
7 p.m. "Mr. Untouchable" — The documentary focuses on gangster Leroy "Nicky" Barnes, who brought boardroom strategy to the heroin trade in ’70s Harlem.
