Red Rock Country Club offers residents best of two worlds — PHOTOS

Sally and Stefano Ripamonti were so taken by the beauty, rural feel and friendliness of residents at the Red Rock Country Club that they were willing to lose a $25,000 deposit they paid at another residential community in Las Vegas. In December 1999, they moved into their 3,823 square-foot, four-bedroom, single-family house on the fourth hole of the private mountain golf course and never looked back.

“I love the way the community was up against the mountains,” Sally Ripamonti said. “I felt like I lived out in the country and not the city. The air is nice and fresh up here and it’s a wonderful place to live.”

Red Rock Country Club lies just off the 215 South Beltway and Sahara Avenue on 738 acres within the Summerlin master-planned community. Some 1,000 single-family homes were built in the late 1990s by the Sunrise Colony Co. of Palm Springs and Toll Brothers. Eighty-seven custom homes have also been built. All residences are within the gated community, which has two Arnold Palmer-designed 18-hole golf courses (one public and the other semiprivate) and a 44,000-square-foot main clubhouse. The homeowners association dues are $245 per month.

Other amenities include a 9,500-square-foot sports clubhouse with exercise machines, fitness classes available to members, three swimming pools, spa, tot child care services, onsite restaurants, social events and nine outdoor tennis courses.

Ripamonti said she uses the gym daily and probably would not do that if she had to leave the community and drive to do so. She and her husband also enjoy the convenience of eating at the three private restaurants open to members.

The Ripamontis, however, are building a new home and have their property at 3084 Red Arrow Drive, listed for sale by the Rob Jensen Co. for $1,550,000. Besides its picturesque golf and mountain views, the property also has an adjacent casita and its own Italian-style bocce ball field. Stefano Ripamonti holds the title of honorary consul emeritus of Italy for Nevada.

Heidi Kasama, branch manager and broker/saleswoman with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Nevada Properties, is both a Realtor and a Red Rock Country Club resident. She and her husband are avid golfers, frequent restaurant and swimming pool patrons and used the tot facilities when their children were young.

“To get a home on the golf course you will pay $1 million and up,” said Kasama, former president of the Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors. “Off the golf course, homes will go for $950,000 to $1 million … What’s nice, too, is that it’s about 10 percent cooler up here than the center of town.”

Bill and Victoria Palgutt have lived in their four-bedroom, two-story 4,423-square-foot home since 2000. They are the original owners but recently placed their home at 2927 Turtlehead Peak on the market at $1,199,000 because they are getting older and their children want them to move closer to them in Philadelphia. Kasama’s real estate company is handling the listing.

“The fact that the mountains are up here and I didn’t have to look at all the growth below of Las Vegas was what we liked,” Victoria Palgutt said. “You always see blue sky, and the mountains are lit (from the community’s lights) at night.”

“This is a great facility to live in,” Bill Palgutt added. “And we have very good golf courses.”

Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors data show that from April 12, 2014, to April 11, 2015, 58 homes sold in the Red Rock Country Club. The lowest closed for $450,000; the highest closed at $2,845,125. The average price for homes that closed was $1,087,500.

“Red Rock Country Club comprises a third of all the guard-gated communities in Summerlin,” Rob Jensen Co. President Rob Jensen said. “People who live there live more of an active lifestyle because of the clubhouse and its close proximity gives you the ability to save time. … Red Rock Country Club continues to be a fun place to move to. You have a large variety of floor plans. It’s an easy location close to (Interstate) 215. On average five homes a month are selling there.”

Bryan Jorgensen, Red Rock Country Club’s membership and marketing director, said several social events, restaurant specials, fitness activities and golf and tennis events, are planned throughout the year.

“We do something every day except Monday which is dark,” Jorgensen said. “Our niche is that we are a full-family club.”

An example of this is summer camp for kids, Jorgensen said. Shortly after Memorial Day until Labor Day parents can drop their children off at the clubhouse for activities that include golf, swimming, tennis and arts and crafts.

“The kids come in at 9 a.m. and leave at 5 p.m. and we serve lunch,” Jorgensen said. “Parents love it. We serve between 60 and 100 kids a week during summer camp. It’s never a dull day around here.”

Another popular event that recently returned to the Red Rock Country Club is the $50,000 Red Rock Pro Open, a U.S. Tennis Association Women’s Pro Circuit-sanctioned tennis event that this year takes place from Sept. 27 to Oct. 4. Several of the top 200 female tennis players are expected to participate this year, Red Rock Country Club Tennis Director Mike Copenhaver said.

“A lot of sponsors get involved in our event,” Copenhaver said. “Our challenge is one of the highest for competition.”

The Red Rock Country Club is the training site for the adidas player development program headed by former professional tennis player and coach Darren Cahill.

With a reputation of its residents living an “active lifestyle,” Copenhaver said the tennis program at Red Rock Country Club likewise is well supported, with 130 families having memberships. Seven pros are on staff, involved in teaching and running adult and junior programs.
