Master plans hold Halloween events
Local master-planned communities are celebrating All Hallow’s Eve with fun family activities all weekend leading into the main spooky event.
“It is important to have events that are fun,” said Benjamin McCarney TPC Summerlin food and beverage director. TPC Summerlin, a premier golf course in the Summerlin MPC, held its seventh annual Trunk or Treat Thursday night for all its members. “The event brings our membership together and creates new bonds as well as solidifying old ones.”
•At Lake Las Vegas, the community has several events planned to bring residents and non-residents together to celebrate the holiday.
We’ve created a variety of fall and Halloween-themed activities and special events for all ages during the Lake Las Vegas Fall Festival in MonteLago Village,” said Cody Winterton of the master plan development team about the inaugural event. “We’ve already had great feedback with attendees expressing their appreciation for us offering so many things, and especially parents who are always looking for fun and free or inexpensive things to do with their kids.”
Saturday’s festivities begin with free kids activities from 10 a.m. to sundown. Children can roam through the pumpkin patch, enter the hay bale maze, try the trick-or-trike tricycle course or jump in the corn pile. The corn pile invites kids of all ages to play in a giant pile of real corn kernels. From 2 to 4 p.m. there will be a pumpkin-carving contest at the Scary Stage. Prizes will be awarded for “Best Pumpkin” in youth and adult categories. Afterward, those who brought Fido can head to the MonteLago Village Gazebo for the Halloweenie Dog Costume Contest from 3 to 5 p.m. The top three canines will walk away with special prizes.
Sunday children can make a Halloween mask free then go trick or treating in MonteLago Village from 1 to 6 p.m.
Halloween night at the Lake adults can set sail on Shipwrecked a Haunted Cruise for those 21 years or older. The cruise, for the admission price of $25 per person, features a costume contest with prizes, music, free appetizers and Captain Morgan Rum Drinks. The two-hour spooky adventure sets sail from the marina in MonteLago Village at 7 p.m.
“Events like the Lake Las Vegas Fall Festival are a great way for family and friends to come together for a shared fun experience in a beautiful one-of-a-kind setting,” Winterton said. “And they provide us with excellent opportunities to plan fun and creative events to bring people to our master plan and learn all about the lifestyle and many community amenities we offer.”
• In Summerlin, options abound for all family members. Events are open to the general public.
“It’s fun for the entire family, including your four-legged friend,” said Halee Harczynski, director of marketing, The Howard Hughes Corp., who estimates more than 10,000 in attendance. “It provides a safe and fun place to enjoy the holiday.”
This year Summerlin’s Halloween festivities are going to the dogs with the first annual Howl-O-Ween dog costume contest. Presented by the Animal Foundation, the Halloween day Downtown Summerlin even takes place at Treat Street from 4-6 p.m. Unfortunately, for ailurophiles, the event is for dogs only. Entry is$20 for first family dog and $10 for the second, with proceeds benefiting the Animal Foundation.
Downtown Summerlin merchants are also participating in the Teal Pumpkin Project this year. The Teal Pumpkin event provides non-food items for trick-or-treaters with food allergies.
Retailers participating in providing these items will display a teal pumpkin outside their store fronts.
• One of Las Vegas’ more established master plans, Whitney Ranch, is hosting a ‘Haunted at the Ranch’ event from 7-9 p.m. Saturday evening. Happening at the Whitney Ranch Indoor Pool, 1575 Galleria Drive, the event features games, bounce houses and a haunted house tour. The cost for the public event is $7 per person. Children must be accompanied by an adult, with parents accompanying children for free.
The Whitney Ranch Recreation Center Halloween is hosting a safe trick or treating event, Tot’s Monster Mash, from noon to 3 p.m.
• Anthem Country Club members are invited to its Halloween Carnival on Oct. 29. The complimentary member-only event features carnival games, music from DJ Tony, costume contest, haunted house and inflatable maze. Members are asked to RSVP with the Concierge at kkemple@anthemcc.com. The club is at 1 Club Side Drive in Henderson.
• Providence is celebrating its second annual Huckleberry Harvest Day at Huckleberry Park, 10325 Farm Road on Oct. 29. The resident-only event features offerings of fall including resident-only Pumpkin Patch, games, face-painting, barbecue and music. A special trick-or-treating area is open to childrentreats.
Later, PD, Providence’s dog mascot is hosting PD’s Paw Party.
Residents can bring their four-legged leashed friends to join in the celebration. Residents can register their pets with the Providence Master Association.
• The District at Green Valley Ranch, 2225 Village Walk Drive in Henderson invites kids to grab the trick-or-treat bags for Halloween Ghost Walk on Monday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. The public event features a Halloween costume contest and three hours of trick or treating at participating retailers.
