Trading in suburbia for The Ogden

Wisconsin natives Dan and Brenda Dinga recently gave up their suburban life for a home in the Silver State. In January, with the help of a Veterans Affairs loan, the couple right-sized into their dream residence at The Ogden, an iconic 21-story high-rise condominium tower in downtown Las Vegas.

The Dingas first decided it was time for a change in 2014, shortly after they wed. As frequent travelers and Las Vegas visitors who appreciated the weather and ’round-the-clock entertainment, they decided to make the Entertainment Capital of the World their home.

“Las Vegas was always a top contender when we started thinking of our next move,” Brenda Dinga said. “At the time, we were living happily in the suburbs of Madison, Wisconsin, and we were certain we would end up buying a home in the Summerlin area. Our Realtor told us to consider The Ogden, because we both loved downtown so much. Next thing we knew, we signed a six-month lease to test it out, and today, we are permanent residents and homeowners.”

Over time, the couple, along with their dog, Stella, fell in love with the community and everything that life at The Ogden has to offer, including spacious floor plans that made the transition from a single-family home into a condominium seamless. When they realized how much they wanted to stay, they purchased the Dentner floor plan, a large two-bedroom residence featuring 1,698 square feet of living space and panoramic Strip and mountain views.

“I’m a retired Marine Corps veteran, but finding a residence, let alone a condominium community that offers VA loans, was a rare gem. The Ogden is not only affordable; its flexible financing options and very smooth buying process made it possible for us to purchase our dream home in the heart of the action — right where we want to be,” Dan Dinga said.

The Dingas especially appreciate the low-maintenance lifestyle. Also, since they work from home, they sold one of their vehicles, because they are able to walk almost everywhere from home, including 150-plus restaurants, nightlife, museums and attractions. And for their four-legged family member, The Hydrant Club dog care is just a few blocks away. They also enjoy the city lights and stargazing from their balcony.

“The concierge team at The Ogden has made life here so enjoyable, and we appreciate how welcoming the community is to pets. There is even a small dog run on property for Stella to get some exercise. And resident amenities, such as the fitness center and rooftop pool, keep us very happy.” Brenda Dinga said.

“We love both the Strip and downtown, but downtown has a special charm about it that can’t be found anywhere else, so our guests prefer to hang out here when they visit. We also are frequent participants in the exciting and fun activities hosted by Evelyn Connors, the community’s lifestyle director. I never in a million years would have imagined agreeing to live in a condominium, but The Ogden has completely changed my perspective, and I couldn’t be happier,” she added.

Since acquiring The Ogden in 2013, owner DK Las Vegas has made a $2 million investment to refresh the lobby with high-end design treatments, creating an immediate sense of luxury and arrival. Homes at The Ogden range from a one-bedroom, 815-square-foot residence with prices starting in the mid-$200,000s to a three-bedroom plus den, 2,044-square-foot home starting in the low $600,000s. The Ogden’s single-story, open floor plans offer flex spaces that can serve as a home office, den or yoga room, extra bedrooms for accommodating multigenerational family and guests and expansive windows that fill interiors with natural light — all sought-after design features by millennials, professionals, empty-nesters and retirees.
