The Ogden to host veterans homebuying seminar June 28
June 10, 2016 - 10:00 pm
With nearly a dozen homeowners who are active or retired military personnel and strong interest from the veteran community,
The Ogden, the 21-story, high-rise tower in the heart of downtown Las Vegas, will host a veterans homebuying seminar June 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. featuring experts from The Federal Home Savings Bank.
The seminar is free and open to the public and is of particular interest to current or retired military personnel who may qualify for Veterans Affairs mortgage financing that allows them to purchase a home with as little as nothing down.
David Beckerman, an active-duty member of the military, is one of The Ogden’s newest homeowners. When he visited Las Vegas last September to find his future home, it was coincidentally the same weekend as the Life is Beautiful festival in Downtown Las Vegas.
That serendipity gave him a sneak peek at what his new life might be like as a resident at The Ogden. In short order, Beckerman made The Ogden, the 21-story high-rise tower in the heart of Downtown Las Vegas, his home, thanks to its VA financing program.
And Beckerman is not alone. Today at The Ogden, over 10 percent of the homeowners have realized the dream of home ownership thanks to VA financing.
“That’s almost unheard of today,” said Beckerman of his ability to buy a home at The Ogden without a down payment.
“We are ecstatic to be in the position to buy a home, and it’s in the coolest place ever – downtown Las Vegas! We are truly living our dream.”
The Ogden partners with The Federal Savings Bank to offer a variety of mortgage loan programs, including VA financing, which caters to active and retired military personnel.
“Last summer when I learned Las Vegas was my next stop, I knew I wanted to live in the center of the energy of this iconic city…not the tourist-driven areas like the Strip, but in Downtown Las Vegas, where the locals come to play,” Beckerman said.
“The Ogden was the first community I explored, and while most prospective homeowners don’t normally purchase the first home they look at, nothing else could compare to its lifestyle, amenities and walkability.”
Beckerman attended training camp in New Mexico for several months, and during that time, found love with his now girlfriend, Michelle Rodgers. Beckerman and Rodgers further cemented their commitment to each other when they moved to Las Vegas in May and made The Ogden home sweet home.
“I had never been to Las Vegas prior to moving here, but I couldn’t ignore David’s raves about The Ogden and the dining, shopping and entertainment that surrounded it,” Rodgers said.
“I’m vegan and have already found a few favorite eateries in the mere four weeks that we’ve lived here. Le Thai offers great food and such a fun atmosphere, and when I want to dish up dinner, I find everything I need and more at The Market grocery store.”
“The team at The Ogden helped me every step of the way, from getting preapproved to inking my final signature in exchange for keys to our new home,” Beckerman said.
“Before I decided to buy, I spent a lot of time thinking I would initially rent to save money, but when I looked at rent prices versus a mortgage, it was no contest.
The value as a resident at The Ogden is unbeatable.”
Beckerman and Rodgers have enjoyed the city and mountain views from their one-bedroom home and are thrilled to explore everything that downtown Las Vegas has to offer, including its more than 150 restaurants, colorful art scene and unique entertainment attractions, such as Downtown Container Park, Fremont Street Experience and nearby museums.
“When I first searched the term ‘Las Vegas’ in Google maps, Google dropped the pin two blocks from The Ogden, and that’s how I knew this would be home,” Beckerman said. “I can hop on the freeway in just minutes to go to work.
When Michelle and I are feeling adventurous and want to explore the Strip, the drive is less than 10 minutes from home. Living at The Ogden encompasses everything I envisioned in city living, while offering an intimacy and warmth, nonexistent in other major cities.”
Homes at The Ogden range from a one-bedroom, 815-square-foot residence with prices starting in the mid-$200,000s to a three-bedroom, plus den 2,044-square-foot home starting in the low $600,000.
Residences feature a modern design aesthetic in keeping with the architecture and the lifestyle vibe, private balconies and expansive views of downtown Las Vegas, the Strip and the mountains that frame the valley.
The Ogden’s single-story, open floor plans offer flex spaces that can serve as a home office, den or yoga room, extra bedrooms for accommodating multigenerational family and guests, and spacious windows that fill interiors with natural light.
