Pardee commits $30,000 in scholarships to local students

Longtime Southern Nevada homebuilder Pardee Homes recently committed $30,000 in scholarships to Southern Nevada high school seniors as part of the Pardee Homes Community Building Scholarship Program through The Public Education Foundation. Each $1,500 scholarship is renewable annually, enabling recipients to receive as much as $6,000 during their college years if they maintain high grades and a full-course schedule each semester.

“Pardee Homes has a 64-year history in Southern Nevada,” said Dan Hale, Pardee Homes’ Vice President of Land and Forward Planning. “We’re proud to give back to our community through annual scholarships recognizing local high school graduates who plan to pursue majors that are related to the homebuilding industry including construction management, architecture and community development.” Since Pardee Homes began its scholarship with the Public Education Foundation, the company has awarded approximately 90 Clark County students more than $400,000, including commitments to current eligible undergrads.

The 2016 Pardee Community Building Scholarship recipients include Alejandro Baez of East Career and Technical Academy; Jazmin Navarro of the College of Southern Nevada High School; Randall Sweet and Maria Zepeda-Zarate of Advanced Technologies Academy and Nicole White of Legacy High School.

“The Public Education Foundation awarded 630 scholarships this year, totaling more than $1 million — both record-setting amounts,” said Judi Steele, president and CEO of The Public Education Foundation.

“Opportunities to pursue higher education wouldn’t be possible if it weren’t for the generosity of our donors, especially our longstanding partners, including Pardee Homes,” Steele noted. “Pardee Homes once again has demonstrated its commitment to public education and helping students achieve their career goals.”

Created in conjunction with the builder’s 50th anniversary in Southern Nevada in 2002, the Pardee Community Building Scholarship supports seniors who demonstrate an interest in homebuilding and community development and plan to attend an accredited college or university in Nevada. Working with the Public Education Foundation, students were invited to submit an essay related to development in Las Vegas. Each student also had to demonstrate a strong record of academic achievement as well as involvement in extracurricular community and student activities.

Pardee has been recognized as a strong supporter of education and community enhancement with donations of land and equipment for schools and parks. Pardee has 12 single-family home neighborhoods, including Horizon Terrace South in Henderson as well as Escala, Montero, Alterra, Solano and Bella Verdi in the master-planned Inspirada community in Henderson; Castle Rock and North Peak in Pardee’s Eldorado master-planned community in North Las Vegas; Camino, across from Eldorado and Meridian, Summerglen and Encanto in southwest Las Vegas.
