Family Finds Home Sweet Home at The Ogden

Josh Alner, originally from Oregon, is no stranger to this city; so when he and his family decided to leave their home in Mexico, Las Vegas was at the top of their list. The Alners recently right-sized from their single-family home in Henderson to a spacious residence at The Ogden, an iconic 21-story high-rise condominium tower in the heart of downtown Las Vegas.
“We loved our home in Green Valley, but the maintenance and upkeep started to weigh down on us,” Alner said. “After my wife, Lida, and I agreed we should spend more time in Mexico where her family lives, we decided to purchase a condominium in Las Vegas here to make it easier to travel back and forth.
“As someone who owns a small business in this city, I have always had a love affair with downtown Las Vegas, and when we witnessed all that The Ogden had to offer in the heart of the city, we knew we had found our next home. Our favorite hot spots include The Griffin and Commonwealth, and both are now located just across the street.”
Alner explained that the decision to purchase at The Ogden was influenced by many factors.
“Nevada’s tax climate is favorable both personally and professionally; we wanted a maintenance-free, lock-and-leave lifestyle to accommodate our travel; and we are surrounded by scores of great restaurants, bars, art galleries, museums and attractions. Quite simply, it’s a fun place to live,” he said.
The Ogden’s flexible financing options were another attraction for the Alners. In fact, The Ogden is one of a few condominium communities that offer a triumvirate of financing options typically not found elsewhere in a single property: Federal Housing Administration, Fannie Mae and Veterans Affairs financing. Thanks to these significantly expanded financing options, the dream of home ownership at The Ogden is now a reality for many who otherwise may not have been able to quality for a home loan.
“There are always a plethora of events happening around us, including the annual Las Vegas Beer Festival in the spring and the highly attended Life is Beautiful Festival in the fall,” Alner said. “We always look forward to returning to our home at The Ogden.”
Since acquiring The Ogden in 2013, DK Las Vegas made a $2 million investment to thoughtfully refresh the lobby with high-end design treatments to create an immediate sense of luxury and arrival; add new upgrades throughout all residences, including new lighting, hardwood floors, granite countertops and stainless steel appliances; and enhanced amenities, such as a Sky Deck, social lounge, fitness center and refreshed rooftop pool. Right outside the front door of The Ogden are more than 150 restaurants — many of them among the city’s most popular eateries — bars, attractions and an energy that continues to build with ongoing redevelopment of downtown Las Vegas.
Homes at The Ogden range from a one-bedroom, 815-square-foot residence with prices starting in the mid-$200s, to a three-bedroom plus den 2,044-square-foot home starting in the low $600s. The Ogden’s single-story, open floor plans offer flex spaces that can serve as a home office, den or yoga room, extra bedrooms for accommodating multigenerational family and guests, and expansive windows that fill interiors with natural light — all sought-after design features by millennials, professionals, empty nesters and retirees.
