Downtown Summerlin hosts tip-off tailgate event

As the only master-planned community in Southern Nevada with its own downtown, Summerlin is well-positioned to celebrate the NCAA Men’s Division 1 Basketball Championships in a big way. And, on March 16, the Downtown Summerlin area hosts a Tip-Off Tailgate Block Party in partnership with Dave & Buster’s and Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa.

The event takes place from 2–10 p.m. on Park Centre Drive and includes a paid VIP tent along with family-friendly experiences that are free and open to the general public. KLUC-FM’s Chet Buchanan will serve as host of the event, which also features meet-and-greet photo opportunities with NBA sports greats Larry Johnson, Moses Scurry and Anderson Hunt.

Other not-to-be-missed additions include half-court shoot-out challenges; oversized event games; game face-painting; photos with Summerlin Sam, the community’s mascot; a performance from the Palo Verde High School band; a meet and greet with the 2017 Nevada 4A Men’s Basketball State champions from Bishop Gorman High School and the Bishop Gorman band; special appearances from the UNLV cheer team, Rebel Girls and mascot, Hey Reb!; a cheerleader braid bar from Vent Blotique and much more.

For true sports fans, the Dave & Buster’s VIP tailgate experience boasts big-screen TVs for optimal viewing, plush seating, mobile betting, a cigar lounge, three included drink tickets, a cash bar and unlimited tailgate food. Tickets are $50 per person. VIP tickets are available in advance at summerlin.com. Event attendees can log on to Downtown Summerlin’s Wi-Fi for a chance to win two tickets, airfare and hotel accommodations to the finals in Phoenix.

“Summerlin’s vision is to provide active outdoor opportunities for residents and the entire city; and, Downtown Summerlin is truly a destination that has something for everyone,” said Halee Harczynski, director of marketing for Downtown Summerlin.

“This event was designed for sports fans of all ages and provides a new, interactive experience for the entire family to enjoy.”

In addition to Downtown Summerlin, the community’s hallmark active lifestyle is created by abundant amenities: 250-plus parks of all sizes, 150-plus miles of trails, 10 golf courses, community centers and resident-only pools. With two dozen public and private schools, and two more opening this year, Summerlin offers unparalleled educational choice. Located at the foot of Red Rock Canyon, Summerlin’s backyard is the region’s most stunning natural landmark, as well as a world-class hiking and cycling destination. Perched along the valley’s western rim, Summerlin’s higher elevation creates unmatched view opportunities and delivers cooler temperatures year-round.

Currently offering 21 neighborhoods, with a dozen more opening this year, Summerlin is in a league of its own in terms of choice. Homes built by top builders come in a variety of styles, price points and floor plans that are perfect for today’s modern families. Unique features include plentiful outdoor-indoor living spaces, casitas and next-generation suites for extended family, smart home systems, energy efficiency and green features — all wrapped into beautiful elevations that meet Summerlin’s high standards for design.
