Design and Construction Week coming to Vegas

Design and Construction Week will be held in Las Vegas Jan. 19-22. The National Association of Home Builders and the National Kitchen and Bath Association have organized the two major components of the event — the International Builders Show and the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show. It also includes the International Window Coverings Expo and the International Surface Event, which marks its first year to be included in the Design and Construction Week.

All the shows will be held in the Las Vegas Convention Center, except for the International Surface Event, which will be held Jan. 20-22 at Mandalay Bay. Next year, the Design and Construction Week will be held in Orlando and will stay there until 2018, and return to Las Vegas in 2019 and 2020.

Organizers are expecting more than 110,000 residential and construction professionals to attend the events, which will have 2,500 exhibitions in 1.2 million square feet. The trade show is closed to the public. Last year, Design and Construction Week drew more than 100,000 people.

In its third year, Design and Construction Week will include events, talks, new product launches, Las Vegas showcase home tours and educational classes.

The 2016 New American Home will be showcased at the International Builders Show. In the past three years, Blue Heron built the energy-inefficient homes. For 33 years, Builder Magazine has partnered with the show to choose a builder who creates a showcase home with the latest materials, features and appliances. This year, a team was chosen to build the residence at 663 Scenic Rim Drive in Henderson. It took about 10 months to complete. The team included Element Design Build of Las Vegas; Home Innovation Research Labs of Marlboro, Md.; Sage Design Studios Inc. of Las Vegas; and green build consultant company, Two Trails Inc. of Sarasota, Fla. John Ted Mahoney of Windjammer Construction of Bridgewater, Mass., was the chairman of the task force.

There are other production homes and high-rise condos that will be showcased during the Design and Construction Week.
