Couple Finds Paradise at One Las Vegas

Native Hawaiians Lamont and Yolanda Lindsey spent the majority of their lives on the islands. But in 1999, the couple left their oasis and moved to the Bay Area to seek greater job opportunities. As they approached retirement, they knew they wanted to be closer to their adult children, who live in Utah and Nevada.

So this past year, the Lindseys purchased a one-bedroom residence at One Las Vegas, the twin 20-story condominium towers on the south end of Las Vegas Boulevard.

“We owned a single-family home in Hayward, but didn’t want to continue to pay California’s high cost of living,” Lamont Lindsey said.

“We visited our son and his family frequently in Las Vegas, so we were very familiar with all the great things the city has to offer. We moved here on Sept. 1, rented an apartment for a few months and started to explore single-family home neighborhoods. By pure fate, we discovered One Las Vegas, and we are so thankful we did.”

In the midst of their home search, the Lindseys reminisced about a timeshare they once owned south of the Strip; that led them to consider a high-rise condominium that would allow them to live a flexible and fun lifestyle that signaled a new beginning to their next chapter.

“Upon our first visit to One Las Vegas, we were immediately taken with the floor plan and abundant amenities, so we assumed it was out of our price range,” Yolanda Lindsey said. “But once we learned how affordable it actually was to have the lifestyle we had always dreamed of, we were over the moon. Everything about the community feels like home, and now we own our own version of paradise, 14 floors above the valley. It really feels like our prayers were answered.”

The couple frequents the community’s two-story, state-of-the-art fitness center and said that once the weather starts to warm up, there will be plenty of days spent poolside at Splash, the newly enhanced 24-hour pool featuring Martinique Beach daybeds, cabanas and spa.

They also were drawn to One Las Vegas’ high level of security, its full-service concierge and the fact that their home includes a storage unit.

“Las Vegas is known to many Hawaiians as the ‘ninth island,’ and it’s true for so many reasons,” Lamont Lindsey said. “We don’t have to venture far from our residence to indulge in some of our favorite food since there are so many Hawaiian restaurants nearby. And the resident activities hosted by Evelyn Connors, the lifestyle director, has enabled us to meet many of our wonderful neighbors. We are already looking forward to the next culinary night.”

“Our son is an air-traffic controller at McCarran (International) Airport, and one of our favorite pastimes since moving to One Las Vegas is watching the airplanes come and go from the convenience of our balcony,” Yolanda Lindsey said. “Living here is like being on a never-ending vacation, and we couldn’t be happier.”

Homes at One Las Vegas range from 831 to 2,857 square feet with many floor plans offering views of both the mountains and the Strip.

One-bedroom homes are priced from the mid-$200,000s; two-bedroom homes from the high $200,000s; and three-bedroom homes from the low $400,000s. The penthouse, which offers 3,000 square feet of sweeping views, is priced at $1.1 million.

One Las Vegas is located close to Interstate 15 and the 215 Beltway, and is just minutes from McCarran International Airport. Town Square, situated just a few blocks north of the property, provides shopping, as well as scores of dining and entertainment options right in the neighborhood.
