Celebrate pets at Mountains Edge event

Celebrate the joy of pet stewardship and learn about helping, fostering and adopting abandoned and neglected animals during the upcoming Family, Fur &Fun Festival at Mountain’s Edge. The free event will be held Oct. 14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the community’s 80-acre Exploration Park.

“There are many ways people can make a difference in the lives of the thousands of animals in need here, and the Family, Fur &Fun Festival provides an ideal venue to easily share this information,” said Christy Stevens, chairperson of the annual event. “And Exploration Park is a beautiful setting for families to also celebrate with their pets and enjoy the great outdoors with its grass areas, trails and amenities, including the Old Western town.”

Well-behaved leashed pets are welcome to join their owners for the fun, educational and interactive booths, dog sport demonstrations by Atomic Dogs and hands-on activities for children. There will be pet adoption opportunities, pet costume contest, arts and crafts, doggie photography and kissing booth, raffle with great prizes, music and food and refreshments.

Legacy Animal Hospital will host an Ask the Vet table to answer questions, provide pet care information and share Halloween and holiday pet safety tips. “We want to make sure pet owners leave knowing how to better care for their furry, four-legged family members and how to safely make them a part of the upcoming holiday celebrations,” Stevens said.

The popular Halloween Pet Costume Contest will be at 1:30 p.m. Attendees and their pets are invited to dress in costume and enter to win prizes for Best in Show, Best Family (can include humans and/or multiple pets), Funniest Costume and Cutest Costume. Participants can register at the event with entry at $3 per category.

People who bring a donation of pet food will receive a free raffle entry. Items made in China will not be accepted.

Event proceeds will benefit nonprofit animal rescue organizations, including Animal Help Alliance, The Churchill Foundation, Hearts Alive Village and Chi of Hearts, Las Vegas Hot Diggity Dachshund Club and Rescue, On My Way Home Rescue and Paws 4 Love. They also will have booths and/or activities.

The Family, Fur &Fun Festival is sponsored by Bulldog AC and Heating, Joyce and Associates, Law Offices of Donna Stidham, Maupin Nalor Brastor Attorneys at Law, Mountain’s Edge Master, Nutrisource, Pictographics and Camp Bow Wow.
