Strip Tips: Mother’s Day specials and a belly dancing flash mob

This weekend, enjoy an unconventional Mother’s Day celebration on the Strip or take advantage of early summer discounts at local attractions.

Ride the bull

If you want to give your mom a Mother’s Day to remember, take her to Planet Hollywood’s PBR Rock Bar & Grill on Sunday. She will receive a free entree off the restaurant’s Rookie menu, with the purchase of a regular entree. Then, while you’re waiting on your food, talk Mom into riding the mechanical bull. Rides are free all day. We’re betting this will create a lasting memory for you and Mom. For more information, call 750-1685 or visit pbrrockbar.com.

Mom makeovers

If you’re looking for a more conventional Mother’s Day gift, send her to COLOR – a Salon by Michael Boychuck at Caesars Palace. The salon is offering a Mother’s Day Salon Makeover package for $185. Mom will enjoy salon services such as a professional makeup application, an express manicure, a wash and style and bottomless mimosas. The offer is good through Monday. For reservations, call 866-730-7791.

Online discount

Madame Tussauds Las Vegas at The Venetian is offering locals a chance to check out the wax museum for half price. Through Sept. 3, tickets for locals with a Nevada ID will cost $12.50. There’s a tiny catch: The tickets must be purchased online at madametussauds.com/lasvegas. And you’ve got to buy two tickets in order to get this discount. Visitors can also get a discount of 20 percent. Kids under 6 years always get in free. For information, call 862-7800.

Photo exhibit

The Las Vegas News Bureau and the Forum Shops at Caesars are commemorating their milestone anniversaries with a collaborative photo exhibit. The exhibition features photos that chronicle the Forum Shops 20-year history on the Strip. It will feature many photos taken by the Las Vegas News Bureau, which is marking its 65th anniversary. Originally created as a marketing arm of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce, the bureau now serves as a repository for historical images of the valley, as well as an active producer of visual media focused on the city and local events. It is now part of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. The exhibit is currently on display throughout all three phases of the Forum Shops: near the Fountain of the Gods; near the Atlantis show and aquarium; and on the second level across from the spiral escalator.

Flash mob

Local belly dance group Fuego Fusion will hold a flash mob Saturday at the plaza outside of Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort. The “shimmy mob” is both a fundraiser for The Shade Tree, a shelter for women, and a celebration of World Belly Dance Day. The group will perform at 4 p.m. Members will collect donations during the event.
