Strip Tips: Madonna in wax, cheap drinks, other discounts

If you missed Madonna’s concerts last week, you can still get your Material Girl fix at Madame Tussauds at The Venetian. A new Madonna figure was unveiled recently and will be at the wax figure museum indefinitely. The figure - dressed in a short, black dress and a horned, bejeweled headdress - was inspired by Madonna’s halftime performance during Super Bowl XLVI. For tickets, visit madametussauds.com/lasvegas.

Porsche Design

Celebrate Porsche Design’s 40th anniversary by checking out the Porsche Design 40Y exhibit at Crystals in CityCenter. Through mid-November, items representing the company’s four decades in design will be on display, including the Bounce: S, a sneaker inspired by auto design; aviator sunglasses; and a Porsche Design smartphone. Porsche Design was founded in 1972 by the man who designed the first Porsche 911 car, Ferdinand Alexander Porsche.

Student discount

Senor Frog’s at Treasure Island just launched a special night for college students. From 9 p.m. to midnight every Thursday, they slash drink prices to fit the college budget. Among the offerings are $1 Jell-O shots, $2 domestic draft beers and Senor Frog’s tequila shots, $3 margaritas, $4 Frog’s Punch and $5 Absolut vodka mixed drinks. This is in addition to the beer pong, conga lines and other crazy happenings that go down at Senor Frog’s. You must be a student with a valid college ID to get the discounts. Also, you must be 21 or older.

Popcorn mix

We admit, the idea of mixing caramel popcorn with cheddar popcorn didn’t sound good. Then we tried it. Those Chicagoans are onto something. To see what, try the Chicago Mix at Garrett Popcorn Shop in Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort. The Chicago company just opened its first outlet in Vegas. If the cheesy sweet flavor isn’t for you, the shop has several flavors, even plain.

Free admission

Parents, mark your calendars: Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay will host a community day Oct. 26. Children 12 and younger who wear costumes will get candy and free admission into the attraction.

Adults can also get in for free on the same day if they donate blood at the United Blood Services booth that will be on-site from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For details, visit sharkreef.com.
