Strip Tips: Actor Richard Grieco showcasing art

A couple of years ago, Richard Grieco, the actor most know for his role on the TV show “21 Jump Street,” didn’t know who Jackson Pollock was.

He was an abstract artist whose work continues to define an entire art style decades after his death. Now, Grieco is being compared to the painter for his own art, which he has labeled abstract emotionalism.

Is he worthy of the comparison? Or is he just another artist who flings paint on a canvas? Grieco wants you to be the judge. Check out his paintings for yourself at Wyland Galleries in Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort.

Grieco, the executive producer of the reality TV show “Gigolos,” has been painting for more than 20 years. Only in the past few years has he fully adopted the role of artiste, often locking himself up for 10 hours or more a day just to paint. He sold his first piece of art in 2009 for $10,900. Since then, he’s sold some for whopping sums, upward of $20,000.

This will be his first exhibit.

“I’m very nervous,” he said. “When you’re doing a movie or singing, you have something between you and the audience. This will be the first time I am being judged on something all my own creation.”

Grieco is scheduled to be on hand to showcase his art from 6 to 10 p.m. daily today through Sunday.
