Six Picks: Our experts pick their favorites for the week

George Lopez

George Lopez may not be forever sidelined in the talk show wars, but these days you have to get off the couch to see him. He’s a lot feistier in person anyway, based on the stand-up material featured in his recent HBO special, “It’s Not Me, It’s You.” The comedian returns to The Mirage at 10 p.m. today and Saturday. Tickets are $75.84-$97.84; call 792-7777.

Goatwhore

Black metal is kind of like beer: Euros just do it better . This frostiest of sounds originated in Scandinavia, but one of the American bands that does it best, Goatwhore, hails from Louisiana, where they leaven a caustic black metal vocal delivery with a dense groove good for snapping one’s fingers and/or neck. See Goatwhore at 8 p.m. today at the Cheyenne Saloon, 3103 N. Rancho Drive. Tickets are $13; call 645-4139.

‘ Portraying Life’

Sure, you could always go to an art museum, but that involves all that walking between exhibits. And nothing good ever came from walking. Thankfully, there’s “Manet: Portraying Life,” a filmed look at the Royal Academy of Arts, London’s exhibit of Edouard Manet’s portr aiture. See it at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Colonnade, Orleans, Sam’s Town, Santa Fe, South Point and Village Square.

Art and wine

Raise a glass to Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art’s current “Warhol Out West” exhibit — literally — at the gallery’s “Art & Wine: A Perfect Pairing,” where over-21 art and wine lovers can experience both alongside gallery director Tarissa Tiberti and master sommelier Jason Smith. This month’s event runs from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Bellagio, 3600 Las Vegas Blvd. South; for tickets ($30 for gallery members, $38 for nonmembers), call 693-7871.

Small cones are free, with no purchase necessary, between noon and 8 p.m., although donations will be accepted for St. Jude’s Ranch for Children. Celebrities are scheduled to be scooping at several locations.

David Guetta

The one and only David Guetta returns to Vegas tonight to play many hits at Wynn’s XS nightclub. He made smashes out of “Gettin’ Over You” (with Chris Willis, Fergie and LMFAO), “I Gotta Feeling” (Black Eyed Peas) and “When Love Takes Over” (Kelly Rowland), among others.
