Six Picks: Our experts pick their favorites for the week

Some serious jazz

Hard-bopping, serious jazzman jazz (not your slap-bass, R&B elevator music) is hard to find in Las Vegas these days, and particularly hard to find in a righteous drinking environment. But Jimmy Mulidore has swung his saxophone (and flute) here since the 1950s, and never gives up seeking a place to honk it. Today that place is the Roma Garden restaurant, 5715 S. Pecos Road, for sets at 7 and 9 p.m. Call 873-1348.

B-52’s hit town

What do you do when the B-52’s play? You get bombed, of course. Seems like every summer the group brings its feel-good pop to Vegas, where their tunes go great with drinks adorned with brightly colored paper umbrellas. See them at 8 p.m. Saturday at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel, 4455 Paradise Road. Tickets are $45.50; call 693-5000.

Praising ‘Kane’

Widely regarded as the greatest film of all time – “Grease 2” keeps getting robbed, I tell ya – Orson Welles’ 1941 masterpiece “Citizen Kane” has been digitally restored, offering the chance to see it like you’ve never seen it before. And if you’ve really never seen it before – and shame on you, if that’s the case – here’s your chance to find out what all that “Rosebud” hubbub is about. See it at 2 and 7 p.m. Wednesday at Suncoast and South Point.

World Oceans Day

The closest ocean may be a few hundred miles away, but World Oceans Day – that’s today! – is as close as Mandalay Bay’s Shark Reef Aquarium, which marks the occasion from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with conservation information, live dive demonstrations, children’s art projects and more. Admission for Nevada residents is $15 for adults and $10 for kids age 5-12 (kids 4 and younger are free); for information or tickets, call 632-4555 or go online to sharkreef.com.

Come hungry

More than 25 food trucks from Las Vegas and Southern California will rumble into the Suncoast, 9090 Alta Drive, for the Gourmet Food Truck Block Party from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday. Participants will include Snow Ono, Sin City Wings, Sausagefest, Chitown Hustler, Slap Yo Mama and Chef Ludovic Lefebvre’s LudoTruck, and there will be beer and wine gardens and a margarita bar. And 100 percent of the $5 admission fee will be donated to Special Olympics Nevada. For advance tickets and more info, go to www.SuncoastCasino.com.

Prepare to dance

Tonight, the seriously incredible DJ-producer Armin van Buuren returns to perform at club Marquee in The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. He was just there in May. Tonight, he arrives with fellow stars Sander van Doorn, EDX and Jochen Miller. Now that’s a lineup.
