Six Picks: Bonham, Shpongle, opera, ‘Spirituals to Funk,’ Lebanese food, Ginuwine

Jason Bonham

Jason Bonham is officially a member of Led Zeppelin, if you go by the group’s occasional reunions, such as the 2007 London “Celebration” concert, set for movie theaters Wednesday. Besides, wouldn’t you rather hear him do Zeppelin songs than Foreigner? Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience plays at 8 p.m. today at Aliante Station, 7300 Aliante Parkway. Tickets are $34-$56; call 547-5300.

Shpongle

Brit duo Shpongle make psychedelic music in the most literal sense: Their altered state electronica is the by-product of the hallucinogenic experience. Expand your consciousness at 10 p.m. today at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay, 3950 Las Vegas Blvd. South. Tickets are $34.50; call 632-7600.

Opera broadcast

Usually, when the fat lady starts warming up, it signifies the end of something. Not this week. The Metropolitan Opera kicks off the seventh season of “The Met: Live in HD” with a live broadcast of Donizetti’s “L’Elisir d’Amore.” See it at 9:55 a.m. Saturday at the Cannery, Colonnade, Orleans, Sam’s Town, Santa Fe Station, South Point or Village Square.

‘Spirituals to Funk’

If you think there’s no connection between the sacred and the profane, think again. At least when it comes to music, there’s plenty of common ground. Dr. John and the Blind Boys of Alabama lead the voyage of discovery in “Spirituals to Funk,” a collaboration highlighting the links connecting jazz, blues and gospel. Catch the spirit at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Reynolds Hall at The Smith Center, 361 Symphony Park Ave. For tickets ($24-$59), visit thesmithcenter.com.

Lebanese food

They’ve been rolling the kibbee balls as members of St. Sharbel Maronite Catholic Mission of Las Vegas prepare for the fifth annual Lebanese American Festival today through Sunday at the church at 10325 Rancho Destino Road. Among the Lebanese food that will be available will be kibbee balls, a traditional appetizer of meat, cracked wheat and onions. Hours are from 5 to 11 p.m. today, 4 to 11 p.m. Saturday and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $3 (free for kids younger than 12).

Ginuwine

Ginuwine appears with a bevy of friends on Saturday at Luxor club LAX for a birthday celebration. He turns 42 on Monday. When he hosted at LAX in July, he got into it, performing “Hell Yeah,” “Differences,” “In Those Jeans,” “So Anxious” and “Pony.”
