Shania Twain will end her Caesars run in December
Shania Twain will end her custom showcase at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Dec. 13, fulfilling a two-year contract without an extension.
The pop-country superstar of the ’90s performs at Caesars through Saturday, then returns for 16 winter shows that will bring her to a total of about 110 performances of “Still the One.”
The announcement cited no reasons for concluding the residency, and a quote from the 48-year-old Canadian singer included with producer AEG Live’s announcment suggests she would have liked for it to continue: ““At the beginning of this amazing journey, through the rediscovery for my love of performing, I knew the stage would feel like home, but it turned out that Las Vegas itself became ‘home’,” Twain said in the release.
But Billboard magazine’s Boxscore chart reported Twain’s July 12 and 13 shows to have a combined gross of $592,808. Sellouts for those shows would gross between $907,200 and $1,058,400, depending on how you calculate the average ticket price.
Tickets for Twain’s shows in the 4,200-seat venue were routinely offered at same-day discount outlets on the Strip. This Friday’s show was offered at $25 plus fees to City of Henderson employees.
And unlike Colosseum roommates Celine Dion, Elton John and Rod Stewart — who all released new albums with accompanying national publicity and TV appearances in the past year — Twain apparently made no progress toward recording an album that was announced as her next career step after the opening of the Las Vegas showcase.
“Still the One” was announced with an unusually long lead time of a year and half before it opened in December of 2012. The long window gave Twain and her collaborators time to design the elaborate production and to give the singer time to recover from a vocal condition, dypshonia, which she attributed to the stress of her divorce from Robert John “Mutt” Lange, the producer who guided her astonishing career in the 1990s.
Twain and new husband Frederic Thiebaud started a foundation, Shania Kids Can, which funded an in-school assistance program at Tom Williams Elementary in North Las Vegas.
