On Budget: Las Vegas for Less

Free shows

Before we all became obsessed with genre designations, there were two kinds of music: good and bad. Vintage Trouble hearkens back to those days, when there weren’t such rigid divisions between rock ‘n’ roll, R&B and soul — if it made you move, that’s all that mattered. See them at 10 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at Book & Stage at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, 3708 Las Vegas Blvd. South. The shows are free; call 698-7000.

Hip-hop night

Enjoy some hump day hip-hop with Wednesday Night Hype at 9 p.m. on, you guessed it, Wednesday at the Bunkhouse, 124 S. 11th St. No cover; call 384-4536.

Jazz and karaoke

Show up early for some live jazz at 7:30 p.m. and stay late for karaoke at midnight on Tuesday at E-String Grill & Poker Bar, 2031 W. Sunset Road, Henderson. No cover; call 437-8764.

Open-mic poetry

Get down at “Word Up” open-mic poetry night at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, 4550 S. Maryland Parkway. No cover; call 944-5029.

Cheap drinks

If you want to get your gal to ride a mechanical bull, you had better ply her with plenty of cocktails. This becomes much more affordable with $1 drinks for the ladies at 7 p.m. Thursday at Stoney’s Rockin’ Country, 9151 Las Vegas Blvd. South. Call 435-2855.
