New flight simulator highlights Aviation Nation

In addition to flying demonstrations and battle re-enactments, as well as the dozens of aircraft on display, a new flight simulator known as Rapid Strike will give visitors a taste of Air Force missions during Aviation Nation this weekend at Nellis Air Force Base.

The Rapid Strike ride will let participants experience an F-22 Interceptor mission, an unmanned combat aerial vehicle hunting an adversary, and a Special Forces mission.

Gates open at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, and flying acts will perform from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., culminating with a performance by the Thunderbirds. The demonstration squadron will offer museum tours 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Because of security concerns, attendees must park and go through security lines at Las Vegas Motor Speedway before boarding free buses to Nellis. Admission and parking also are free.
