Las Vegas Tenors offer more than classical

The Las Vegas Tenors might not be as famous as those three opera guys, but they’ve shown they can have a lot more fun covering Cee Lo Green.

“We try to do a lot of different styles,” says Bobby Black, the one singer who has been with the Tenors since the group was founded in 2006 with Bill Fayne (who has since branched off to a new group, Voices 3).

Black says potential audiences sometimes need reminding that “tenor” isn’t synonymous with “classical,” and that “the highest male singing voice” can be applied to the lead singers of Queen and Led Zeppelin.

Tim Wilgers and Paul Vann complete the trio that will perform today and Saturday at the South Point. They are working up about 10 Christmas songs to augment their regular repertoire, including Cee Lo’s version of “That’s What Christmas Means to Me” and an “unplugged” version of “The Little Drummer Boy” with no drums.

“A lot of people just hear the story without the songs,” Black says.
