Broadway hit ‘Kinky Boots’ coming to Las Vegas

Hey, “Kinky Boots.” You’ve just won the Tony Award for best musical. What are you doing next?

You’re going to Vegas, that’s what.

The musical will launch a national tour in Las Vegas in September 2014, the New York Times reported Wednesday.

Although The Smith Center for the Performing Arts was not specified as the tour’s Vegas venue, the downtown performing arts complex is in talks with “Kinky Boots” producers about the tour launch, according to Smith Center president Myron Martin.

“Nothing would make me happier than to launch the national tour of today’s hottest Broadway show from The Smith Center,” says Martin, who saw (and liked) the show during a recent New York trip.

On Sunday, “Kinky Boots” collected six Tony Awards — including accolades for composer Cyndi Lauper, star Billy Porter and director-choreographer Jerry Mitchell’s dances. Based on the 2005 British movie of the same name, “Kinky Boots” focuses on a drag queen (played by Porter) who helps a hard-working bloke save his family’s shoe factory by making the fabulous title footwear.
