Broadway classics coming to Smith Center

“Les Misérables” will open the 2013- 14 Broadway Las Vegas series at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts in August. The upcoming season, which runs through July 2014, is sponsored by Southern Nevada Ford dealerships. The lineup brings many of Broadway’s most beloved and famed musicals and plays to Las Vegas for the first time.

The 10-part series features timeless Broadway classics as well as some of today’s newest productions, including “The Book of Mormon.” Combined, the celebrated roster of productions represents 40 Tony Award s.

Heralded as one of the most moving musicals of all time, “Les Misérables” is an epic and uplifting story that captures the survival of the human spirit. Called “an unquestionably spectacular production from start to finish” by The New York Times, “Les Misérables” is the winner of eight Tony Awards and has been seen by 60 million people worldwide.

The musical features its original famed scores, including “I Dreamed a Dream,” “On My Own,” “Stars,” “Bring Him Home,” “One Day More,” “Empty Chairs at Empty Tables” and “Master of the House.” Celebrating its 25th anniversary, the musical features new staging and reimagined scenery. It will run Aug. 7-11 in Reynolds Hall.

“Les Misérables” will be followed by “The Wizard of Oz” Sept. 10-15, “War Horse” Oct. 2-6, “Sister Act” Oct. 15-20, “Evita” Nov. 26-Dec. 1, “Mamma Mia” Jan. 7-12, “Flashdance — The Musical” Jan. 28-Feb. 2, “The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess” April 15-20 and “Once” May 20-25. “The Book of Mormon,” winner of nine Tony Awards including Best Musical, will close the season June 10-July 6.

Tickets to the upcoming Broadway Las Vegas series are only available to season subscribers.
