Avoid the Madness: New Year’s Eve options dodging the Strip

In recent years, Las Vegas has become one of the top New Year’s Eve destinations in the world, attracting hundreds of thousands over the holiday.
That’s great for the economy but not so great for locals who want to enjoy a Vegas new year without having to brave those crowds on the Strip. Luckily, there are several options for ringing in 2011 that don’t involve the Strip or partying tourists.
Try your hand at New Year’s Eve bingo at Gold Coast or check out the Society of Seven at the Cannery. Lake Las Vegas is throwing a New Year’s Eve party, complete with fireworks.
Following is a roundup of activities taking place across the valley Dec. 31 and into Jan. 1. Some are free while others require a fee and reservations. Remember, the list is not all-inclusive and information is subject to change, so call before you go.
The Cannery

Society of Seven, featuring Jasmine Trias, is scheduled to perform in the Club at 10:30 p.m. Concert tickets cost $44.95 plus tax and fees. Packages that include the concert and dinner at Waverly’s or Vino’s Ristorante cost $84.95 plus tax and fees or $64.95 plus tax and fees for dinner at the Cannery Row Buffet. The bingo hall will host $25,000 New Year’s Eve bingo at 10:30 p.m. Doors open at 9 p.m. Buy-in costs $50 per person, which includes a free dauber, champagne, party favors, hors d’oeuvres and a free gift. Players also can bring their own party platters.

The New Year’s Wonderland Dance Party will be from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the Mardi Gras Room. Admission is $50 per person, which includes an open bar, champagne toast, hor d’oeuvres and party favors. Disco Inferno is scheduled to perform disco hits from the 1970s. The Prime Rib Loft is hosting a New Year’s Eve party starting at 9:30 p.m. Tickets cost $100 per person and includes dinner, open bar, a champagne toast and live entertainment. Reservations required.

For those who can’t stay up until midnight, the Suncoast is offering a midday New Year’s Eve celebration. New Year’s Eve at Noon will be in the Suncoast Showroom; doors open at 11 a.m. Tickets cost $19.95 plus tax, which includes live entertainment and a champagne toast. The Showroom also will be the site of Loveshack from 10 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Tickets cost $29.95 plus tax, which includes a champagne toast and balloon drop. SC Prime Steakhouse is hosting a party from 10:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Tickets cost $125 per person and includes live entertainment, a special menu, party favors and a champagne toast. Reservations required. The bingo hall will host $30,000 New Year’s Eve bingo at 9:30 p.m. Buy-in costs $60 per player. Tickets are available by calling 636-7111, ext. 5705.
Suncoast’s Bowling Rock n’ New Year’s Eve Party will be in the bowling alley from 9 p.m. to midnight. Two packages are available. For $15 per person, guests receive three hours of bowling and shoe rental, a free T-shirt, party favors and three tickets for a prize drawing. For $25 per person, guests receive a 16-inch cheese pizza and two medium sodas; three hours of bowling and shoe rental; a free T-shirt, party favors and three drawing tickets for prizes. The District at Green Valley Ranch

At the District, $75 gets you into Presidio, Al’s Garage and Balboa Pizza for the New Year’s Eve festivities. It includes unlimited appetizers, an open bar with draft beer, wine and well drinks and a champagne toast at midnight. Party favors will be handed out and live music playing throughout the evening. For $50, get into Al’s Garage and Balboa Pizza only. There’s an open bar with beer, wine and well drinks, a midnight champagne toast and party favors.

Live entertainment will be in every venue. Lon Bronson All-Star Band plays the Ovation starting at 9 p.m. Tickets cost $24.95 and up. Kelley and Jonathan are scheduled to play Quinn’s Irish Pub from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. with Darby O’Gill & the Little People taking the stage at 10 p.m.
Peter Love plays piano at Hank’s from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. Jeremy Cornwell is scheduled to play guitar in the Lobby Bar from 7:30 to 10 p.m. with a DJ spinning music from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Santa Fe Station
