No guessing needed if you hear classic rocker Burton Cummings

Since there has never been a more truth-in-band-name than The Guess Who?

Trust the voice.

Few classic rockers have watered down the value of their name more than the various factions and spinoffs of Canadian classic rockers The Guess Who. But Burton Cummings was the original singer on the band’s first great run of hits, including “These Eyes,” “American Woman” and “Hand Me Down World.”

Now Cummings, who turned 66 on New Year’s Eve, will make his solo-billed Las Vegas debut this weekend at The Orleans.

And unless it’s The Guess Who’s, er, bass sound that has lured you in all these years (bassist Jim Kale controls the trademark on the group name), you will have a lot of catching up to do.
