Moon draws club-goers with retractable roof, celebrity appearances

Most nightclubs in Vegas have names that sound cool — Jet, Pure, Lavo, Bank — but don’t necessarily describe the venue, its atmosphere or theme.

A trip to Moon at the Palms, 4321 W. Flamingo Road, isn’t quite a trip to the moon but it comes close. The 12,500-square-foot club features a retractable roof that opens to reveal the night sky, almost creating the illusion that you can reach up and touch the moon.

Opened in 2006 as part of the Fantasy Tower expansion, Moon is the high-end dance club at a resort that already features a handful of the valley’s most popular clubs, including ghostbar, Rain and Playboy Club.

Resident DJs spin mostly top 40 music. Tuesdays are Bang Tuesdays, a locals-centric night that has had a lot of success, says Palms owner George Maloof.

Celebrity appearances and the occasional special event are popular with the crowds. For New Year’s Eve, the Palms will host a propertywide party with events going on in every venue. Cover charge will be $375.

Admission for the club is $20 weekdays and $40 weekends, local women get in free. Admission includes entry into the Playboy Club. The VIP all-access pass costs $60 and buys access to Moon, the Playboy Club, Rain and ghostbar.

Moon opens at 11 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays through Saturdays. Reservations are strongly recommended for tables.
