Kaskade making electronic music accessible to masses

People often ask me for music recommendations. For the past six months, I’ve been pointing them to a masterful DJ set by Kaskade, who performs Saturday at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas’ Marquee nightclub.

“Kaskade Live At Coachella 2012” is so accessible to mainstream music listeners that if they don’t normally listen to DJ music, and they don’t like this, they may never enjoy electronic-dance vibes.

Not only is this Kaskade set longer than an album (90 minutes), Kaskade gave it to the world as a free download on Soundcloud.com. You don’t have to sign up for anything to get it.

You can find it simply by Googling “Kaskade Coachella.” But the exact URL is http://soundcloud.com/kaskade/kaskade-live-at-coachella-2012.

It is stellar, because Kaskade has been DJing for 20 years, and creating his own studio songs for years. So he knows music, and he knows how to move a crowd with frequent climaxes, seamless transitions and seductive melodies.

“Kaskade Live At Coachella 2012” includes remixes of his own songs (“Eyes,” “I Remember” and others), as well as outstanding collaborations with friends, particularly his mash-ups with Dada Life (“Dynasty Noise” and “Llove”), and his “4AM” remix with Hard Rock Sofa.

I’ve listened to the whole set probably 100 times this year.
