Ditch Fridays pool party at Palms features top talent, discounts for locals

Awesome.

That’s the way Jon Gray described Ditch Fridays’ seasonal debut last week.

The weekly pool party at the Palms has grown every year since its inception four years ago. This season, the first day broke records in revenue and attendance, Gray says.

"It’s been a great few years, and every year it’s getting better," says Gray, senior vice president and general manager of Nine Group, which runs Ditch Fridays. "We’ve built up our brand of Ditch, and we have some great momentum. Not only that, but the Palms has built itself up as the premiere destination in town for night life and day life. We’re riding on that great planning we’ve done."

Gray says guests can expect big name talent to appear throughout the season. T-Pain is scheduled to host and perform today.

"We’re always looking out for the top talent, what’s hot, what’s going to drive people to come," Gray says. "We’re capitalizing on what’s relevant at the time."

Last season, an average of 3,000 guests attended each Friday, and management expects similar numbers this summer. About 40 percent of attendees are locals, who benefit from discounts and promotions offered by Ditch Fridays’ sponsors, Gray says.

While pool parties tend to be guy-heavy, Ditch Fridays’ crowds have been about 65 percent women. They actively encourage women to come out by providing special offers such as bikini contests with cash and prizes.

Cabana rentals cost around $3,000 to $4,000 minimums on Ditch Fridays, while daybeds cost about $1,500 to $2,000. Prices vary depending on events. Complimentary chaise lounges are also available on a first come, first served basis. The key to getting one is to arrive early, around 11 a.m., Gray says.

Cover charge starts at $25; women receive discounts depending on events. Local women always get in for free. Ditch Fridays start at noon and ends at 6 p.m.

On Mondays, Palms and Nine Group are launching Cabanas for a Cause, Gray says. Proceeds from cabana rentals will be donated to local charities. The first event, May 23, will benefit Links for Life Foundation.
