Take it easy with the Little River Band

Some musical institutions roll on longer than any of the individuals who are part of them.

The Little River Band playing Green Valley Ranch on Saturday celebrates more than 35 years. But the group born in Australia has evolved into a Nashville-based quintet completely different from the people behind the original run of soft-rock ’70s hits.

It’s one of those bands with so many personnel changes and Beach Boys-like litigation that original members were forced to tour under the name BSG, or Birtles Shorrock Goble. The official band is now headed by Wayne Nelson, who logs more than 30 years with the group. The current quintet keeps alive such hits as “Reminiscing,” “Lonesome Loser” and “Take It Easy on Me.”

And since Halloween is over, it might be time to order up “A Little River Band Christmas.”
