Summer vibe gets going with the reggae beat of Ziggy Marley

When you think of guys who played Las Vegas for much of their lives, you think more about David Copperfield or Donny Osmond than Ziggy Marley.

But the oldest son of Bob Marley was one of the first acts to become a perennial at the Hard Rock Hotel starting in 1996, when he was then just 28. He and the Melody Makers were still fresh from a run of albums that included the big-selling “Conscious Party” in 1988.

Now 45, Marley has a new album, “Fly Rasta,” with a global-warming message in its reggae-pop single, “I Don’t Want to Live on Mars.”

If nothing says Memorial Day like reggae on the beach, Marley gets the summer off to a proper start with Sunday’s show at Mandalay Bay’s outdoor pool stage.
