Summer of Fun begins Saturday with free concert

Summer at the Cannery unofficially arrives Saturday with KOOL Radio’s Summer of Fun Kick-Off Festival and Car Show.

Members of the Mustang & Classic Ford Club of Las Vegas and the Las Vegas Cruisin’ Association will park classic cars along Aerojet Way, directly south of the Cannery.

The annual event features groups from the 1960s and ’70s, including The Dixie Cups u25B6,
Shades of Blue, Gary Lewis & The Playboys and The Buckinghams. Doors open at 4 p.m.

Shades of Blue had a No. 1 hit with “Oh How Happy.” The Dixie Cups were popular for “Chapel of Love” and “Iko, Iko.” The Playboys hits include “This Diamond Ring” and “Everybody Loves A Clown,” and The Buckinghams topped the charts with “Kind of a Drag” and “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy.”
