Their latest record is called “The Electric Age,” but it sounds more like something that came from the Stone Age.
Of thrash, at least.
New Jersey metal lifers Overkill were one of the defining bands of thrash’s ’80s emergence, with frontman Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth singing of destruction as a way of life in a nasally snarl at Motorhead-worthy speed levels.
Thrash’s popularity has waned and since been re-ignited in recent years, with these dudes remaining consistent throughout, never experimenting too much with their batten-down-the-hatches assault .
When they hit town this weekend, they’ll be joined by Vegas’ death-thrash battering ram Avenger of Blood.
Now that’s overkill.
