Meshuggah set to thrash House of Blues

Their songs often feel like they start right in the middle.

Meshuggah’s vertiginous, entangled metal comes at you from all angles, bursting to life suddenly, like a struck match, and seldom relenting.

Like running a marathon, their tunes are exhausting in a good way — to a select few.

Employing unorthodox time signatures and downtuned eight-string guitars, these Swedes’ knotty progressive thrash is alternately heated and haunting.

Meshuggah’s latest record, “Koloss,” is a maze of disorienting riffing and shuddering rhythms.

“I’m the monstrous mouth that hungers for your awe,” frontman Jens Kidman barks on an album opening “I Am Colossus,” as the band proceeds to swallow listeners whole.
