Kansas carrying on, playing Orleans

So you can see Kansas this weekend, but you have to wait nearly six months for whatever the group is big-teasing on Facebook.

“Mark your calendars for August 17, 2013. A special announcement is coming soon,” say the Kansans who Americanized the British wave of progressive rock in the 1970s.

Perhaps it’s a new album, because one thing the group has seldom been is hard to see. Kansas were Midwestern road dogs before “Leftoverture” propelled them into the big leagues in 1976 with their signature song “Carry on Wayward Son.”

And road dogs they remain in their post-glory years. The current lineup includes original singer and keyboard guy Steve Walsh, drummer Phil Ehart and guitarist Richard Williams, with bassist Billy Greer and violinist David Ragsdale.
