Jesus and Mary Chain playing House of Blues

The Jesus and Mary Chain have long hovered over above alt-rock like a storm cloud: usually dressed in black, often obscured onstage by a fog of dry ice, their tunes scruffed up with feedback, they can look and sound like a rainy day at times.

The Scottish band’s songs tend to unfurl slowly, at a deliberate pace, equal parts melody and dissonance, as distortion, noise and overdriven amps somehow get distilled into a tuneful, insistent buzz.

The group hasn’t put out a new record since 1998’s “Munki,” but have been touring off and on for the past five years, covering the land like a solar eclipse in rock ‘n’ roll form.
