Geek out with Coheed and Cambria

If there was an NCAA men’s basketball-style tournament to crown the nerdiest band of all time, Coheed and Cambria would be a lock for the final four.

Just how geek-tacular is this prog rock quartet?

Well, for starters, all of their records are concept albums, naturally, that form an ongoing science fiction narrative called “The Amory Wars,” which has also been turned into a comic book series.

Toss in the fact that frontman Claudio Sanchez sings in the upper register whinny of Rush’s Geddy Lee, giving voice to impressively elaborate songs bearing titles such as “Key Entity Extraction I: Domino the Destitute,” and you’ve got the rock ’n’ roll equivalent of a pair of plastic Spock ears.
