Fear Factory bringing industrial thrash to Fremont

Fear Factory inspired a wave of metalcore bands with their blend of death metal growls and melodic clean singing. They will be appearing at 8 p.m. Friday at LVCS.

They’ve long envisioned a future so bleak it hardly qualifies as a future at all.

Sci-fi metallers Fear Factory embrace technology while simultaneously cautioning against it, frequently warning of the perils of the man vs. machine divide and the power of technology to swallow humanity, with “Blade Runner,” Depeche Mode, Napalm Death and “1984” all figured prominently in the band’s steely industrial thrash.

When Fear Factory debuted with 1992’s “Soul of a New Machine,” they were among the first acts to blend guttural death metal growls with melodic clean singing, inspiring countless bands to do the same in their wake, from Killswitch Engage to As I Lay Dying to virtually every other metalcore band ever.

The band’s latest album is “The Industrialist,” which sounds like the dire end of mankind that they’ve been predicting all these years.
