Daughtry to play The Joint

Daughtry’s radio-friendly rock is as middle-of-the-road as an interstate’s center lines.

The band’s tunes are well put together, almost to a fault.

There’s no edge or personality to them, just craftsmanship.

Band namesake Chris Daughtry is skilled at grafting singalong hooks to by-the-numbers arena rock conceits like lighter-in-the-air choruses and lyrics awash in generalizations on love and overcoming the odds.

Maybe that’s why the group has been successful: Their tunes require no effort to digest on behalf of the listener.

Daughtry’s catalog goes down easy.

The hard part is remembering any of it afterward.
