Chocolate & Spice Bakery finds success through diversity

When it opened last May, Chocolate & Spice Bakery was lauded by many in the valley as the next great local sweets shop.

As the eatery nears its first anniversary, it seems it didn’t disappoint. Just check out the online reviews and listen to the local word of mouth. When owner and chef Megan Romano opened, though, she only was offering sweets to Southern Nevadans who needed a fix.

Since then, she’s added a few other offerings to help make her business more diversified.

For example, Romano now offers seasonal cooking classes including specialty courses for holidays and children’s baking. She also sells her desserts to local restaurants such as Eat, Poppy Den, Sambalatte, View Wine Bar & Kitchen, Taste Market & Deli and Chocolat at The Palms.

And on top of all that, Romano was named Pastry Chef of the Year in 2012 by the Nevada Restaurant Association.

Bravo, Madame.

Apparently, Ke$ha is no slouch.

We hear that when the pop diva recently performed at Pure Nightclub, she put in time at the venue before her public performance. She practiced and did a run-through of her set, something that many artists don’t do when appearing at the club, sources say.

The bad boys from Wirtz Beverage have done it again.

The national company’s Nevada outpost recently held a Wild West-themed party aptly called The Cocktail Clubhouse Tombstone. Invites promised “libations, revelry, music and general debauchery,” while cautioning that the “faint of heart need not apply.”

Tombstone’s hosts were Wirtz Beverage Nevada’s own “spirit slingers,” Drew Levinson, Andrew Pollard, Kent Beardon and Eric Hay.
